Digital Series. 30 episodes. TITLE ???

Abandoned exploration travelogue show where I review an entire run of comics. DIY YouTube pop culture review with a cinematic, shot on film, 1980s music video style.

Background:

Around 1989-1990 I found boxes of DC “prestige format” comics at my Uncle’s comic book shop. This new format was direct market only, mature content, better paper and a more expensive cover price. They always stood out but were over my head so I never really read any.

Years later all of his comics burned up in a fire.

Now, as an adult I want to track down those comics I remember and read them all. The only problem I don’t have free time or I’d feel guilty if I wasted it reading these, so the only way I can justify putting in the time to read is to simultaneously film a review show. Each issue is an episode.

I will be reviewing the entire run for the spectre.

Episode Synopsis:

First Episode opens on me sitting in a chair. V.O. explains my mission to read a stack of comics but I can’t find the time or a place to do this. Each episode will be me driving around trying to find somewhere to read the comic. Inside a car driving around, landscapes pass by. The scenes of driving and landscapes repeat, fast paced, we never know where we’ll end up. a song plays over the drive time until we reach our eventual destinations. The destinations are an exploration of dead malls, abandoned buildings, unique architecture, under bridges, and other dystopian scenes. I walk around the site with a comic in hand, find a place to sit down. In real time and in one long take I read the comic. At the end I’ll look up and give a summed up sentence. End of episode.

The goal is to make this at first glance look like a Youtube review show that slowly becomes cinematic. There are many pop-culture review shows, people reviewing comics, video games and so on. I want that audience to find this show but it will never really deliver. my first concern is playing around with the format and time. In the end I don’t care about reviewing a comic I care about my anxiety over time, what is frivolous time in a world of abandoned plazas and buildings. I want the city to be almost unidentifiable, looks like anywhere but nowhere at the same time. The episodes devolving into an entirely different tone by time the episode ends is a good thing.

Look:

video examples. Looks raw and hand held like an amateur YOutube show but as cinematic as music videos, notice skies and filters. please use this a cue for color and sunsets.
